The Kanonkop cannon monument before the Simonsberg at sunset

Est. 1910 — Simonsberg, Stellenbosch

Where the big guns roar

A fourth-generation family estate on the lower slopes of the Simonsberg — widely regarded as the South African equivalent of a Premier Cru or First Growth.

The Estate

Hospitality, family values & tradition — in the glass

Kanonkop takes its name from a kopje on the Simonsberg from which a cannon was fired in the 17th and 18th centuries, signalling to farmers that ships had rounded the Cape — time to load produce and trade in Table Bay. Three centuries later, the estate still announces itself unmistakably: through wines consistently ranked among the finest reds in the Southern Hemisphere.

Our Wines

Two ranges. One fingerprint.

The Estate Range — complex, age-worthy wines from our oldest vineyards. The Kadette Range — softer, fruit-forward wines for earlier enjoyment.

Kanonkop estate beneath the Simonsberg

Since 1910

Four generations.
One family. One farm.

From Paul Sauer's stewardship to the brothers Johann and Paul Krige today, Kanonkop has been shaped by legends — Jan "Boland" Coetzee, Beyers Truter, Abrie Beeslaar — winemakers who built its reputation not only with their hands, but their souls.
